Winning a cart racing competition is every young rider's dream. But before you go flying through the finishing line, you need to learn the rules of go karting and how to handle yourself out on the track. The first step is visiting a racetrack; nothing will educate you like seeing the action first hand. You will find other drivers to be very welcoming and enthusiastic and they will love to talk to about the sport and their techniques.

There are several wonderful cart racing books that will greatly improve your ability out on the track. Visit your local library and read as many book on cart racing and maintenance as you possibly can.

Before you begin cart racing you should master the carting basics: starting, stopping and tuning your engine. You will also need to learn to signal with your hand when you are exiting the track, slowing down or spun out of a turn and still on the track.

When your first cart racing day comes around, take advantage of the practice time. Get a good feel for the track and take note of the corners that are challenging. The more you compete and learn about your cart, the better your racing will be and with the right amount of dedication to the sport, you could be taking home a trophy sooner than your think.
